Bootsy Holler’s Contaminated is a layered exploration of the tens of thousands affected by radiation illnesses and the secrets the United States Government kept at the Hanford Nuclear site. This project is what has happened to the people and the land in southeastern Washington State. This is where she was born, and her family lived for eight decades. In 1942, Holler’s maternal grandfather arrived on the land and started working for the U.S. Government, codenamed “Manhattan Project.” The Hanford site produced plutonium for the first nuclear bomb used during World War II. In the exhibition are handmade photo sculptures built from the stories Holler has heard and experienced from family, friends, and news articles. The unique work is accompanied by landscapes, mixed with her experience growing up in this highly charged town.
First Thursday Opening: Oct 1, 5 - 8 PM
In-Person Artist Talk: Sat, Oct 3 at 3:30 PM
Lucy Bohnsack’s This Work They Call Love highlights the ingenuity and resilience of women raising children with inadequate resources. Through portraits of community volunteers, Bohnsack turned to cardboard, plastic bags, fabric scraps, and a printer for her final work, memorializing the resourcefulness required to perform maternal labor and make women’s work visible.
