Yukai Chen’s 2025 En Foco Fellowship exhibition, The Factory of Desire, explores queer identity and cultural inheritance through self-portraits and staged photographs. Drawing on his upbringing in rural southeastern China, Chen transforms personal experiences of displacement into vibrant queer spaces. Using familiar mass-produced materials, he reimagines a conservative upbringing as a rich resource for queer expression.
First Thursday Opening: Nov 5, 5 - 8 PM
Artist Talk: TBD
Ashley Peña’s 2025 En Foco Fellowship Exhibition, Ebb and Flow, traces a five-year visual journey through the Dominican Republic and Maryland. Documenting everyday life, landscapes, and family, she honors African and Indigenous communities. Her photographs lean into the shadows, embracing opacity to protect the multiplicity of truths within personal memory, landscape, and belonging.
