Hermon Joyner

Artist Statement

Last fall, I began picking up leaves. Dried into flowing shapes and earth-tone colors, they resembled delicate sculptures in my hand. I set them aside with no definite plans. Then the lock-down happened in March. I began to photograph them, accentuating their textures and shapes, treating them like the small-scale monuments they are. I found beauty in the end of their life cycle. No longer ordinary, they had become transfigured.
