Artist Statement

I took these pictures of ordinary people and their spaces during the spring of 2020. My subjects are not posed nor are they affluent. I try to explore some of the issues of poverty and homelessness in an affluent urban environment during the current pandemic. I hope to capture a look or a gesture that speaks to those problems.
Most of my pictures are black and white digital prints. I find that the simplicity of the limited palette can make for a stronger, more dramatic image.
