Artist Statement

“O’Hara’s, Ground Zero Pub Where Memories Are a Badge of Honor”, 9/11/2024

This establishment is near the NYC Fire Department (FDNY) Ladder 10 and Engine 10 Station located on 124 Liberty Street across from the World Trade Center site. Of the 343 firefighters who perished, six were from Station 10. This pub is where members of the FDNY along with family and friends spend time to remember those lost on 9/11/2001. The walls and ceilings have badges of firefighters from around the world.

Artist Bio

Ben Sarao, Executive Director of Primary Image, works on long term documentary projects. These projects include: Eternal Garden of the Villa Borghese, made with the support of The American Academy in Rome, as a Visiting Artist; and, Shared Tragedy, a documentary on children in the USA and Vietnam the effected by the toxin, Dioxin. The documentary POST 9/11 began in 2001. During the past 24 years, images have been made at the 9/11 sites in New York, Pentagon, and Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania.
