Artist Statement
A good friend of mine, a Parisian gallery owner and collector, once told me he traveled from his desk, surrounded by art from around the world. Change is the only thing that never stops changing. It appears in nature and in the places we build—some fleeting, others enduring—revealing both fragility and resilience. I hope to convey the same in this black-and-white collection. Photography captures fleeting moments while leaving space for discovery—an alley, an open door, unexpected light. Stripped of color, the eye turns to shadows, lines, and expressions: the harmony we cherish.
Artist Bio
I am a photographer and traveler from San Francisco, though my work takes me everywhere. My wife, Michèle, and I both grew up in small towns—she in France, I in the U.S.—and travel became part of our lives early. My first journey to Europe, as an AFS exchange student in Germany in 1968, changed how I saw the world. Together, Michèle and I ventured to Guatemala in 1974, beginning a lifetime of exploration and discovery. We raised our family traveling widely, and now share adventures with our grandsons. Travel and cultural exchange remain the heart of my photography.
