Artist Statement

During the pandemic I've taken to paying particular attention to our city-dwelling relationships with the greenery that surrounds us. In many cases, houses were already hemmed in by landscaping that isolates. But now it seems both like more of a menacing sentence... AND a life-saving balm of nature. In all these cases, the built up environment is not dominant over the lush Northwest in which it resides. Even if it's a carefully scripted landscape, still the life force of grass, shrubs, hedges and trees defies our circumstances and perseveres, seemingly oblivious to the tensions of the day.
