Artist Statement

Photography has the power to connect the past to the present. The image from New York was taken in 1971. The image of Breonna Taylor is from Portland in 2020. These images when viewed together, challenge us:
Are we doomed to repeat the past?  Or,
Will we really change, for the better, this time?

Artist Bio

I started photographing in 1969. My passion is street photography, especially environmental portraiture and documentary photography. Extensive travel has given me the opportunity to capture and share images that connect across time, geography and culture. My aim is to use photography to provoke us to question, think, care, and ultimately, to recognize and strengthen our common bonds. Solo Exhibition: University of Minnesota 1979. Group Exhibitions in Minneapolis (Photography Industry Show, 1973); New York (26 Photographers, 1986); and Portland (PDR at Central Frame, 2020).
