Deborah Bergman

Artist Statement

I began 2020 in literal flight, almost recovered from a 2017 injury that prevented most image-making. I flew through Milano January 19 and 29. Wheelchair status kept me safely isolated. COVID exalted my personal story into a larger yet atomically tiny victory as I discovered I had regained more or less full use of my limbs just in time to quarantine alone. These are glimpses of my artistic and indirectly physical recovery. As I returned to the hillside I planted twenty years ago my usual abstract process choicelessly included history. In a sense these are self portraits.
