Facing Fear

January 5, 2006 - January 28, 2006

Jules Greenberg’s “Facing Fear” project is a documentary portrait series in which people walking on the street stop for a moment to reveal their deepest fears. Grounded in social documentary traditions, people from all regions and walks of life admit, in image and text, what they fear most. The result is a poignant glimpse inside a stranger, yet revealing a human and universal connectedness of shared concern about one’s place in the world. Greenberg’s photographs show an African American teenager afraid of ‘being poor;’ a homeless man afraid of ‘situations;’ She writes, “Whether real or imagined, minimized or exaggerated, our fears shape the paths we walk on as well as the ones on which we dare not tread… “
