As a life long Washington State native, and a decades long commitment to photography, including fine printing, this endeavor, Pacific Northwest landscape as a subject for which I have an instinctual affinity. As we evolve and continue to have a questionable understanding of our relationship and connection with the rest of life on earth, involvement with this activity seems as important as ever, as a personal exploration, and an expression. Presenting our efforts in this regard as an expressive and compelling object, a fine print, seems an obvious conduit for this effort to others, and I find the making of these things a fulfilling commitment as well.
The landscape here is less overtly spectacular than more photographed areas, I try to depict something more quiet, subtle, and present with my work, honest to the experience here. In concert with this, I don't over dramatize composition and tonality in my printing, attempting a more understated and honest expression of the spirit and feel of my part of the world.
I have been an innovator in development, teaching, custom printing, advancing contemporary processes to make the most expressive black and white prints I can. These prints are currently made with custom mixes of 100% carbon inks on 100% cotton fine art papers.
This is a selection of ten images from a decades long commitment to this body of work, Pacific Northwest landscape photography.
