Intertidal is a series of photographs taken off the coast of Connemara, Ireland in the aftermath of three successive Atlantic storms. The climate-driven intensity of storms Ciara, Dennis, and Jorge brought the rain total to 262% of average for the month according to Met Éireann.
This beach is said to be named for the sea god Manannán mac Lir, an ancestor of the ancient Conmhaícne Mara people and a reputed shapeshifter. The light, sediment-filled freshwater spills down the beach from flooded fields onto the currents of the darker sea, evoking a sense of mythical metamorphoses. Silt and sand provide a temporary record of the moving images in their ebb and flow along the intertidal zone.
