Calvin Chen
In my current work I find myself drawn to chine-collé, a historical process that involves transferring an image to a delicate paper and support. It’s literal translation is China and glue. Not only does the process suit my images, but it has become a metaphor for where I am as an artist- a stage of uncertainty and mystery, where I am searching for common threads that bind my work together. This technique offers me a path to move my photography beyond the digital realm and into the tactile world of printmaking, creating a dialogue between contemporary and historical methods.
