Artist Statement

My photographs are portraits of people who live in the remote small communities in Prince William Sound. I studied Fine Art Photography at the University of Iowa, and shortly after graduating, I headed off to Alaska with only a backpack and a desire to experience Alaska's remoteness. I currently spend my time between Oregon and Alaska.

My lens often lingers on the fishermen whose weathered faces and steady hands speak of their long days of fishing. I am drawn to the everyday rituals: mending nets, cleaning boats, preparing for their next haul, finding a deep connection to a place that celebrates the past of the Gold Rush Days every year. My Photographs seek out these moments, capturing portraits of this fascinating place. The past and present are never far apart.

Artist Bio

My Photographic journey began in the pre-digital film days. My love of photography was nourished in the darkroom while processing black and white prints and color Cibachrome. My enthusiasm for "looking at the world," as I see it, continues today in the digital realm. That range of experience has taught me that photography, no matter the path, is an outlet for creative visual expression.
