Lawrence Manning

Artist Statement

Crows are present in much of my work. I use them as symbols and metaphors to reflect existential gifts and power as represented in myths, legends, omens, and cultural stories found throughout various societies and cultures. They are featured prominently in my narratives about my relationship and attempts to communicate to a son who committed suicide.

Artist Bio

Lawrence Manning worked for 45 years as a commercial photographer. In 2020 he freed himself from clients and art directors and begin exploring the aesthetics of fine-art photography. He embraces contemporary explorations of what defines a photograph, experiments with varied digital and analogue processes, embraces the vulnerability of sharing personal narratives, and constantly enlarges his tool box and knowledge of art to express himself.

He exhibits in galleries nationwide and has been honored to have been accepted into three Blue Sky Pacific Northwest Drawers programs.
