Artist Statement
As often as possible I take a walk along the shore of Lake Michigan. There is something to marvel at each time. The surf leaves ever-transforming lines and patterns in the sand. These are a source of wonder and awe for me.
This image is one such discovery, taken during a walk along the shore. What a delight to discover this impressive impression in the sand.
Artist Bio
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Angela Michielutti, received a BFA with honors from Saint Mary’s College and an MFA in graphic design from the University of Notre Dame, both located in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Michielutti is a practicing graphic designer and calligraphy artist with a strong interest in letterforms and design as well as an educator in visual communications, currently teaching at Ivy Tech Community College. Prior teaching appointments include the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend, Saint Mary’s College and Holy Cross College. Like other artists, Michielutti sees and interprets the world through art making. For the last 35 years or so, her work is principally made through mark making and calligraphy with a focus on abstract and gestural works. Recently, Michielutti enjoys capturing the gestural marks made by wind and water in the sand.
