Cityscape Burma

At first glance, Eric West’s Cityscape Burma is a formal photographic study of the country’s urban landscape, yet closer examination of these large-scale color prints reveals the subtle relationships between people and place, as the details of everyday life unfold within each frame. For the artist, these photographs also serve as visual documents of Burma in transition, as the military government’s recent opening up of the country to tourism and the influence of Western culture has begun to reshape this previously isolated, Buddhist nation.
