Pok Chi Lau

Imprint - Phenomena, The Legacy of Contemporary China

February 5, 2009 - March 1, 2009

Pok Chi Lau was born in Hong Kong in 1950. In 1969, he left for Canada and the United States to pursue a career in photography. For nearly four decades, he has made Chinese migration and the emergence of China a focal point of his work.  About this body of work, he says, β€œThe photographs culminate 40 years of my work in the topic of Chinese migration and the emergence of China in an unprecedented pace that shocked the world. I question the process and the cost of how these monumental and irreversible changes affect the faces of the ordinary common folk of this monstrous and diverse nation.”
