John Willis
Nestled in the picturesque New England scenery is a large smoke-generating, steel constructed paper mill and recycling plant. Through his abstract, black and white images, Willis explores the aesthetic and philosophical contradictions of having a smoke-generating paper mill that is also a paper recycling plant. Beautiful, full-frame images of paper bales and scraps are abstractions of the situation–not photojournalist, allowing the viewer to lose themselves in swirls of wind-driven paper cyclones, or reflect on the environmental issues explored in the photographs.
