Interested in exploring issues of popular and social culture, A. Leo Nash’s black and white panoramas document the vast Black Rock Desert in Nevada following the alternative gathering and celebration known as the Burning Man Festival. Dubbed by Wired Magazine as “The New American Holiday,” the Burning Man Festival is a temporary village where artists and performers seek to liberate themselves from mainstream passive entertainment and move towards radical self-expression. Nash attempts to capture the fervor and excitement of these temporary encampments, and the spirit which compels their existence.
