Imprint - Phenomena, The Legacy of Contemporary China

Pok Chi Lau was born in Hong Kong in 1950. In 1969, he left for Canada and the United States to pursue a career in photography. For nearly four decades, he has has made Chinese migration and the emergence of China a focal point of his work.  About this body of work, he says, “The photographs culminate 40 years of my work in the topic of Chinese migration and the emergence of China in an unprecedented pace that shocked the world. I question the process and the cost of how these monumental and irreversible changes affect the faces of the ordinary common folk of this monstrous and diverse nation.”

Exhibition runs February 5th to March 1st, 2009. Regular gallery hours are noon to 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
