In Bunkers: Ruins of War in a New American Landscape, Alex Fradkin documents the architecture of war through constructions that are historic monuments to every real and imagined threat to the Western United States. The earliest fortifications were built in the early 1800’s when the land was taken from Mexico. Emerging from the sand and sage brush lay hundreds of concrete forms whose alien appearance stand in stark contrast to the sublime coastal landscape of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Alex Fradkin, Lisa Robinson and Danielle Mericle will present artist talks on Saturday, April 5th, at 3pm. The lecture is free of charge and open to the public. Blue Sky is open at its new location in the DeSoto Building, on the east side of the North Park Blocks between Davis and Couch, from noon to 5 pm Tuesday through Sunday. For further information call (503) 225-0210.
