pm Tuesday through Sunday. For further information call (503) 225-0210.
In Momento, Rita Godlevskis investigates the role of photography in the daily lives of the people within their own contexts. She posed the question: "what is your most important photograph?" to a variety of sitters and then photographs them holding the image of their choice in their home, in their hands. In posing the question “what is your most important photograph?” rather than “what is your favorite?” Godlevskis’ explores the idea of what gives a photograph value. She states, “One of my subjects described personal photographs as “personal treasure”. The idea of treasure, and value in personal photographs extends beyond the monetary. Value in the case of personal photographs is not found in the physical artifact itself, but in the sentimental attachment of its possessor.”
