Blue Sky presents a lecture by Mark Klett, lead photographer for Third View: A Rephotographic Survey of the American West, on Saturday, September 1st at 3:00 pm in the afternoon.
Blue Sky is located at 122 NW 8th, Portland, OR. 97209 (east side of North Park Blocks, between Davis and Couch). Blue Sky is open from Noon – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and is free of charge to the public.
Led by photographer and project director Mark Klett, The Third View project was formed in 1997 to rephotograph historic landscape views from the 1860's and 1870's, and then make new photography, video and sound recordings, and gather other information about the land, its people and their stories. The resulting work is combined in a multimedia format linking the past to the present.
The project draws upon the nineteenth century photographs by William Henry Jackson, Timothy O'Sullivan, William Bell and others - photographs which make the West unique among landscapes. Initial groundwork for Third View was laid from 1977 to 1979 by the Rephotographic Survey Project, with new photographs taken from the exact same vantage points and at the same time of day and year as the historic images.
