With the help of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Kimball spent time completing a 7-year
project traveling around the United States photographing at beaches, parks, campgrounds
and swimming holes. Intrigued with locations where people become directly involved
with their landscape and thus intimately connected with nature, Kimball’s color
photographs capture the moments when subject and environment seem vulnerable,
displaying found and created individual narratives of people’s interactions with
their landscapes as part of an American narrative.
