Artist
The photographic team of Joanne Gonzalez and Franck Loumiet depicts urban landscapes,
looking to the buildings as objects and the city as landscape. Their stark black
and white photos reveal and compare the multiplicity of signifiers (aesthetic,
functional, historical and social) characteristics of all cities and towns.
By repetition of framing in spaces which are visually closely related despite
differing architectural styles, their photos show a new image of the city--bare
and transfigured--which provides a singular defining sensibility, inviting the
viewer to analyze and compare the relationships between formal structure, narrative,
and the relationship of buildings upon space.
