Blue Sky Gallery, 1231 NW Hoyt, is proud to present a lecture and slide presentation by visiting photographer Abby Robinson, of New York, New York on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:30 pm at Blue Sky Gallery. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Abby Robinson’s “In Camera” series reveals a world where traditional and contemporary collide. Lush color images of photography studios in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam build upon premises of traditional documentary photography, but the painted backdrops and props that she photographs introduce narrative painterly and cinematic elements. She writes, “The backdrops, dealing with representations of the natural and man-made world are, in their fashion, idealized versions of both…The juxtapositions [of pastoral and indoor scenes] –along with those of the mundane clutter surrounding the magical painted backdrops—are full of longing, hope, ambition, and irony. Her work will be on display at Blue Sky the month of November.
