Blue Sky Gallery, 1231 NW Hoyt, is proud to present a lecture, slide presentation, and book signing by David Maisel on Friday, June 4 at 7:30 pm at Blue Sky Gallery. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Maisel will discuss his evolution as a photographer, and his recent series, The Lake Project, on display at Blue Sky the month of June. David Maisel’s stunning large-scale color images defy normal conceptions of how photography documents. In The Lake Project, colors swirl, patterns stretch and spill off the print, perspective is impossible, and the land bleeds. Owens Lake, formerly a 200 square-mile lake in California, is an example of environmental degradation, holding the highest source of particulate matter pollution in the US. Maisel’s deceptively beautiful abstracted aerial photographs of this region vividly relay the surreal effects of a land out of balance.
