Blue Sky Gallery, 1231 NW Hoyt, is proud to present a lecture on the photographs of Craig Pozzi by Bruce Guenther, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum on Wednesday, August 25 at 6:30 pm at Blue Sky Gallery. The lecture is free and open to the public.

For over 20 years Northwest photographer Craig Pozzi has been capturing the humor, irony, and human spirit encompassing ordinary community life. His images were included in the 2003 Portland Art Museum Biennial and an upcoming exhibit at Gallery 114, 1100 NW Glisan, 503.243.3356, will run the month of August.

Pozzi has survived a brain tumor, but a recent hemorrhagic stroke resulted in partial blindness in his left eye and color loss in his right. He is unable to walk and since November has been in area hospitals and rehabilitation clinics instead of home with his wife Angela and daughter Nicola.

An effort is underway to publish a book of Pozzi’s expansive collection of photographs, Popular Events. This event at Blue Sky will shed light on Pozzi’s consistent vision and is a fundraising opportunity. Blue Sky is working with the Pozzi family to secure funding for the publication and will distribute the book free of charge to its members, curators and museums around the country.

A wine reception will begin at 6 pm, followed by Guenther’s lecture at 6:30 pm. There will be an opportunity for people to contribute towards the book after the lecture. Individuals interested in seeing Pozzi’s actual images may then walk two blocks to Gallery 114 to view the exhibit, listen to the music of Tall Jazz, and enjoy another food and wine reception at that location.
